GRAIN ROT Enemy Guide — How to Survive the Corrupted

Recognize the current Corrupted by behavior and use cover, corners, stamina and environmental hazards to survive.

Direct answer

Identify a Corrupted by what it does, not by relying on an unofficial nickname. Break sight lines against gaze and ranged attacks, use corners against fast pursuers, keep stamina in reserve, and avoid fighting an enemy you can safely route around. Current gameplay shows that different threats punish different reflexes, so one tactic does not beat every enemy.

Identify the behavior before you commit

The official description says Corrupted react to sound, movement and each other. Stop at cover, listen for a repeated cue, and watch one attack cycle before swinging. Community footage uses nicknames for several enemies; this guide pairs those names with visible behavior so it remains useful even if the official labels differ.

One-eyed gaze and laser threat

The one-eyed Corrupted shown in current gameplay can pull the player's gaze and use a laser-like attack. Hard cover breaks the interaction, and leaving the vessel briefly is demonstrated as another escape from the gaze. Do not back away in a long open lane while taking damage; step behind a wall or doorway and leave once the attack cycle ends.

Mannequin-like Stalker

The Stalker stops moving while a player looks at it, until it is provoked. Use a long hallway to create distance while watching it, then turn corners and leave the area. Attacking removes the safe red-light/green-light pattern in the demonstrated build and causes a direct chase, so only start that fight with a finishing plan or a nearby environmental hazard.

Fast pursuers, propeller skulls and the explosive baby

Fast enemies drain a beginner's stamina on straight routes. Take successive corners and keep enough stamina for the final escape rather than sprinting at the first sound. The propeller-skull enemy is shown taking effective hits to its propeller, while the explosive baby announces itself, ignites and chases before detonating. Give the explosive enemy room, let it commit, then route around cover instead of trading damage.

Friendly-looking Rot follower

The small follower asks to stay near the player and raises Rot while close. Distance is the clean answer. Hitting or otherwise damaging it can turn the encounter into an attack, so do not let curiosity pin the crew in a small room. If Rot has already built up, prioritize space and a safe route rather than trying to test every interaction.

Persistent Crawler

Once the Crawler detects a player, the community demonstration shows it continuing to track that target. It moves slowly but lunges and is shown resisting dropkicks. Avoid detection when possible; after detection, use pits, the Grinder/extractor area or other environmental hazards with care. Do not stand on the hazard yourself while trying to bait it.

When to avoid instead of fight

A manageable enemy can be strategically valuable. Current gameplay reports that killing one can cause a replacement to spawn, potentially trading a predictable threat for a worse one. Leave slow or easily controlled Corrupted alone when they do not block the objective. Fight when the route, elevator or processing area cannot be secured any other way.

Common questions

What are the enemies called in GRAIN ROT?
The Steam page calls them Corrupted vessels. Community nicknames such as Stalker, Crawler or plague doctor describe recognizable behaviors but are not treated here as an official bestiary.
Should I kill every Corrupted?
No. Avoiding a controllable enemy can preserve stamina and prevent a more dangerous replacement from appearing in the demonstrated build.
How do I stop the Stalker?
Keep looking at the mannequin-like Stalker to hold it still, create distance, then break contact around several corners. Provoking it changes that behavior.
Can every enemy be dropkicked?
No. The current enemy demonstration specifically shows the Crawler resisting dropkicks.
