How to Dropkick in GRAIN ROT

The input sequence for a dropkick, why empty hands matter, and when knockback is safer than a normal attack.

Direct answer

With empty hands, build sprint speed, jump forward, then press the unarmed action/punch while airborne. On default keyboard controls shown in current footage, that sequence is sprint, Space to jump, then the action input. If it does not trigger, check that your hands are empty and verify your current bindings or Steam Input layout.

Dropkick input sequence

  1. Put away or drop the item in your hands.
  2. Hold your sprint input and move forward long enough to build speed.
  3. Jump while you are still sprinting.
  4. Press the normal unarmed action or punch during the jump.
  5. Aim your movement through the target rather than stopping directly in front of it.

Keyboard and controller notes

The current keyboard walkthrough demonstrates Left Shift to sprint and Space to jump, followed by the action input. Controller layouts can vary with Steam Input, and patches can change defaults. Use the action names—sprint, jump, unarmed action—when translating the sequence to a gamepad, then check the live control menu if one button does not match an older video.

Why the dropkick does not trigger

The usual causes are holding an item, pressing the action before leaving the ground, jumping without sprint momentum, or running out of stamina at the wrong moment. Practice in the Outpost with open space. Separate the inputs clearly: establish sprint, jump, then act in midair. Button-mashing all three at once makes the timing harder to diagnose.

Use it for space, not guaranteed damage

Steam presents the dropkick as a physics interaction against enemies and friends. Treat the value as displacement: knock a target away from a doorway, create a path to the elevator or push a vulnerable enemy toward an environmental hazard. Do not rely on a fixed damage number or knockback distance, because target mass, geometry and patches can change the result.

Targets and situations to avoid

The current enemy guide shows that the Crawler cannot be dropkicked. A missed attempt can also spend stamina and leave the player beside the target. Avoid kicking toward a teammate carrying valuable loot, an exposed ledge you also need to cross, or a narrow elevator entrance when the crew is trying to extract.

Co-op etiquette

The official Steam description deliberately advertises friendly chaos, including launching an ally's Spark. That does not mean every public group wants it. Decide before the run whether friendly dropkicks are part of the session. In an LFG group, default to using the move against enemies and for rescues, not against an unsuspecting teammate.

Common questions

How do you dropkick in GRAIN ROT?
Sprint forward with empty hands, jump, then press the unarmed action/punch while airborne.
Why can I not dropkick?
Check that your hands are empty, you have sprint momentum, and the action is pressed after the jump. Also verify current key or controller bindings.
Can you dropkick friends?
Yes. Steam explicitly describes dropkicking or launching allies as part of the game's co-op physics chaos.
Can you dropkick every enemy?
No. Current gameplay specifically demonstrates that the Crawler resists the move.
